Why I Don't Apply Eyelash Extensions

I have been asked many times if I offer eyelash extensions. The answer is “no.” And since December is Lash Month, I wanted to give you my personal reasons why…

Eyelash extensions are, literally, tiny little lashes that are glued to the base of your own eyelashes. They are intended to grow out with your natural eyelashes and fall out accordingly. However, I have seen people that will continually need to come in weekly to have additional eyelashes applied. This could be from excessive rubbing, irritation to the glue or certain eye make-up removers. I even witnessed a woman that lost all of her eyelashes on one eye and was left with one eye that had long lush lashes and one eye that had stubs.

That is a really hard look to pull off…

Some Cons of Eyelash Extensions

  • Eyelash extensions are very high maintenance and can become costly very quickly.

  • Having to go back to the salon every 2-4 weeks and sitting for sessions that can last for up to 2 hours.

  • Eyelashes can fall out at any time causing your lashes to look even more sparse than what you began with

  • If not applied correctly they can bend and look more like tentacles than eyelashes.

I find that this is a lot of money that can easily be flushed down the drain. There are other options out there. You can use fake lashes when going out, there are many different styles you can select. If you are wanting a glam look, use the longer fluffier lashes, or chose a shorter more natural lash for every day. There are also magnetic lashes available now, so that is an option as well.

So, what do you do if you want great lashes?

I think investing your money in a good reputable eyelash serum like Rodan and Fields would be a much more cost-effective option than spending hundreds of dollars monthly on lashes that “might” stay intact.

If you love your lash extensions and they make you feel like your best self, please continue to use them. This is just one humble makeup artist’s opinion.

If you would like to discuss other options, such as an eyelash lift and tint, I am having a special this month! Please schedule your session at www.heidilynnmakeup.com.

Until Next Time,
